The last few days I worked on a new oil and I think it's already finished!

Hi Deco, wow this is really good, love the way you have done the tree, and having been on safari,i can honestly say that this is very much how it would look.Love elephants, they are so gentle with the young.I did think that maybe it needed a little more detail on the front of the mother ele,a few more wrinkles perhaps on the trunk, but that is probably just me. :eusa_think: :whistling2:

Thanks Kim :whistling2: , I must own up I haven't painted elephants before and it was
quite difficult, although they look simple as form :eusa_think: I'm glad you like the painting,
It's more than compliment from a person who has been in Africa and has got a closer look at its nature! :clapping:

Elephants are not the easiet to do,and i have to admit not having done one myself yet,it is all the wrinkles in the face and the trunk area that are the hardest to do.Most of the drawings and paintings that i have seen are generally a close up of the face,a real challenge for a pencil gripper. For some one who has never done ele's before,i think it is a great pic, your choice of colours as well, especially for the grass in the foreground. It is so much like that on hot sunny day,and everything is still. :whistling2:

Wonderful Deco! Love the way you have the calve's head tilted to get to the teat, with the front legs bent too - great attention to detail. :eusa_think: There's far too much clever Art on this site - I'll have to post some rubbish soon to balance it! :whistling2:

So gorgeous Deco, elephants are such amazing creatures. To say this is your first attempt, I think it's fantastic. For me, adult elephants have a certain "wisdom" about them, and calves have a "smile" look. I think you've captured both. I bet it looks even better really, especially with the life that oils have. Thank you all for the kind comments! :clapping:

I was looking exactly for that tawny, pale yellow colour of the grass, which
the Savanna has. On the photo I used for the elephants there wasn't any grass,
so it's from the Animal Planet TV that I often watch. :eusa_think:
That baby elephant was the hardest part of the painting <_< , it really looks
like it's smiling :cheer: and the Mum's trunk I re-painted it several times :whistling2:

Fantastic work Deco! B) I really like the feeling of this painting, the scene is set perfectly. Seeing elephants painted in this way reminds me of David Shepherd's work. :king1:

I love the cheeky little youngster too, you've captured it just right! :D

Now theres a compliment, Deco. One day I hope I'll be compared to D. Shepherd. Great work. B)
Strangely enough I'm doing some work with an elephant theme at the moment, but digitally rather than with paint.
