Hi,

I use inks with a brush, but other than that I can't help you. I haven't used horn as a material and I've never come across iridescent ink.
I think the best thing you can do is experiment with the horn. Sorry I can't be of more help. :birthday:

Ink should work on horn but only if you've removed the surface, I suppose you
won't be able to paint directly on the surface, cuz it's unctuous, but the best way,
as Starry suggested is to experiment :birthday:
Sorry, but I'm also not quite familiar with inks, I don't use them much, but
when I paint with inks I use brush or nib and recently I bought very interesting
W&N silver ink, it's very interesting material, I even tested it on oil! :cheer:

hI All, Here we go again . I've seen some Pearlescent inks (ziggy art) on internet .Surely that means each individual colour to be pearlescent ?The inks are also acrylic . Would the inks be thinner than the acrlic paints , could i do a coat on top of the 1st coat , ie to put more depth of colour . Price is £15 for six colours named or £3-25 per bottle .Anyone know of a better price or anything on my other questions . The colours of most interest to me would be the ones you would see on a trout , iv'e just started to shape it up , it will be sometime before i paint / ink it Best Regards Stickmaker :) :)

Hi Stickmaker, :) I finished the painting where i tested the W&N silver ink,
I used it for the pins wanted to get metallic look, you may see it here:

the photo isn't good enough but the painting was wet when I took it. :)
I think the ink is a very good material, it covers very well and has a great metallic lustre. Hope to see some new work from you soon. ;)

Hi All , I bought some inks today makers are Daler Rowney one bottle Pearlescent WHITE PEARL and one bottle FW OLIVE GREEN . Ive had a little try out on the horn and believe it or not i managed to obtain THAT elusive green i was after when i did the trout stick .I was very pleased on how easy the inks blended and how much thinner it appeared to be than the acrylic paint that i have used previously . While i was looking around the shop i saw a lovely pearlescent pink , this i thought would be ideal to use on the under belly and sides of the next trout i will do ( dont know when) . I think that maybe the inks may show up any carvings or burnt details better as the inks are much thinner . Anyone have any thoughts on this ? Regards Stickmaker :)

Hi Stickmaker,I do use inks with coloured pencils, but my ones are made by Winsor and Newton, and they can be thinned with distilled water,so I imagine you should be able to do this with the Daler make as well. :)

Hi drawingirl , Thanks for reply , yes i do believe that they can be thinned using distilled water . I'm going to another artists supply shop today to see if i can find a larger selection of pearllescent's , i want to "see" the actual colours in order to make the selections that i will require . I'm now going to have a look on the internet first , will let you know what i find . Regards Stickmaker :)

Hi All , This week i've managed to find a place which carried the full range of pearlescent acrylic inks (21), they also appeared to stock a good range of the FW acrylic inks . Ive now "seen " and noted the colours i think i shall require to start with on the new projects that i have in mind . The prices of these inks were i thought a little on the expensive side , (£4-25 pearlescent £3-95 FW ) , anyway i've ordered some online from Cornwall today . Hope they are going to be ok for what i want to do?!! Regards Stickmaker :banghead2: :whistling2:
