Hi Stickmaker :santa_kiss:

Nice work! The painting looks great :santa_smiley:
I like the colour palette and the background is very well done.

Just a suggestion if you don't mind :cheer:
I see you wrote the painting is finished but it seems to me it's not.
There are still not enough nuances/shades and lights on the owl
to make it looking 3D. Even if you're using colours you can achieve this
by playing more with the paints. Also I think adding more detail
on the feathers would make it better. What you think? :)

Hi Deco, I was waiting for some more replies before posting my own , however some time has passed . Thanks for your interest and comments :santa_smiley: . I think the painting has lost something with the camera "flash" , the face i.e. beak and ruff of lower circle and edges of the head area have come out quite good , feet and tree stump appear ok as is the light part of the tail (between the wings) . I think you are right about maybe adjusting the birds "spotted areas" on the back as it does lack the 3d look :santa_kiss: . More detail on the feathers --- aaaaargh can you give a little instruction on how to improve these areas. Remember this is the stickmaker/apprentice painter :cheer: . It's a hard life( trying ) this artwork some hard taskmaster's :) Best regards Stickmaker

Hi Stickmaker :)

I see what you mean about the camera flash effect,
it happens sometimes with me as well when I try to
take photos of my paintings especially if they're varnished :)

Think you've done a great job :santa_smiley: and my suggestions were only to improve
the work :) 3D is not such a big issue, there are many artists that prefer to work
in a different way but I've got impression you're into realistic style :)
That's why I suggested playing with the colours/shades more, imagine the bird
is composed of two 3D circles - body and head and when you've got the light
angle try to apply the shades/lights that way as you're drawing sphere.

As for the feathers :) well I'm not very good at drawing birds :cheer: ,
think I've seen many very good works on your sticks releted to birds :santa_kiss: ,
so I'm sure you'll manage perfectly :)

I'm sure you'll get more comments from the other members as well,
maybe they're busy at the mo :)

Hi Deco , I dont know to much about art as yet only being new to it as you know, however i think you have classed my "style " correctly as i do want to paint "what i see". At the present i'm struggling to get that 3d effect but i'm sure that it will come eventualy . I shall have a go at the feathering ( soon :santa_smiley: ) and re-post . 3D effect oooooh well lets see if i can practice on something else to learn on before attempting it . Ive started on another stick but it will be some time yet before it will be ready to do a posting . Thanks for your constructive comments :santa_kiss: the only way to get better is to know where you are going wrong . Regards Stickmaker

Hi Stickmaker :santa_kiss:

I think with the time and practise you'll find
the right way :cheer: so far you're doing very well :santa_smiley: ,
just for few months you've achieved so much, some
atists need years to go there.

btw, do you still go on this art course? Think it's very useful for you :)

Look forward to seeing the new stick you're working on and
the progress on this painting as well :)

Hi Deco , Yes i'm still going to the art class but as you can see i've still a long way to go . I've started to sketch a postcard , but i'm going to try and make it about A 4 size and then reproduce it in watercolour but not in the manner in which i did the yorkshire cottage. This time i WANT to make thing a nice light and airy looking i think, well we shall see . Regards Stickmaker

:cheer: Hi Stickmaker - looking very good but as Deco says it would be nice with the 3d effect - not that I can blooming draw a bird mind :santa_smiley: the background looks great though so I shouldn't think it will take you too long to sort feathers etc. Let us have a peep when and if you get time to rework a little - what with all this slab laying you've got on :santa_kiss:
